Can I run BBB at 3.3V?

Post by enhering » Wed Jan 27, 2016 5:25 pm

I have a BBB rev E and a USB BUB (red version).

It runs fine at 5V, but I'd like to interface the BBB with some 3.3V sensors.

The question is: Can I run the BBB at 3.3v just by changing the BUB jumper to 3.3V?

enhering ,

The BBB's power input from USB runs through the LDO voltage regultor. So you would need to change the voltage regulator to a 3.3 version or short it out.

One other issue is that the brown-out on the chip fuses is set to 2.7 volts I think, so the overhead is a bit low when running at 3.3 volts. We have changed our brownout detection default on the Atmega chips to 1.8 volts now to make it easier to run things at 3.3 volts.
