Rev D power supply dims.

Post by JimOfTheCorn » Mon Mar 01, 2010 11:10 pm

I can't find the schematic for my Rev. D BBB. What are the jack dimensions for a compatible wall wart (or a part #, come to that)? Looks like the inner might be 1.3mm...

Thanks,
-Jim

Jim,

The board will accommodate either 2.1 or 1.3 mm power jacks - It's important to get the ones with 1mm pins however - Some 2.1 jacks especially have larger pins and won't work.

As a matter of history, the board was first designed with 1.3mm jack, then Brian Riley of Wulfden convinced me that 2.1 was more common. So the 2.1mm power jack holes were added (and I started shipping only the 2.1mm jacks), and the jack hangs off the board a bit, since I didn't want to change the size of the board.

The center of the jack is positive.

Hope that helps,

Paul

Yes, thanks. I got mine pre-assembled, and it's pretty definitely not a 2.1. :)

I can see what Brian Riley means, I could only find two compatible-looking power supplies on digikey, a 6V/1A and a 9V/.66A.

You might just consider swapping out the power jack to 2.1 mm jack on the board, if you've got the smaller one.

It's a bit mysterious where the smaller jack came from because it's been a long time since I shipped any with 1.3mm jacks - I don't think I ever shipped rev D with 1.3mm jacks.

Just send an email to hello@moderndevice.com if you want a new 2.1 female power jack - we'll just send you one in an envelope
